Across the U.S., 94% of public-school teachers spend their own money on classroom supplies, averaging $895 out-of-pocket during the 2024–25 school year. Nearly all teachers — 97% — say their school budgets are insufficient to meet classroom needs. For students in low-resource communities, this gap means starting school without the tools needed to succeed.
